I am a Chartered Market Technician, but my first encounter with the markets started back in the internet bubble when I thought I was picking great stocks because of great fundamental analysis. While fundamental analysis is an essential part of assessing the market, even the most professional research could be irrelevant without proper experiencein the markets. When the bubble burst, I realized that the market is always changing so we must always keep up, but the changes are also anchored to the past so we must understand its history as well.

That is why, above all categories, I am a student of the markets, and will always be one.

To me, the market is a bronco and everyone wants to stay on it. If you are correct in anticipating the beast's movements, howdy cowboy, you are a winner. The market is not always violent as a bronco would be in the ring, but it has twists and turns likewise. You can learn all the physics in the world, but without riding the animal you do not have any idea how to anticipate moves and how to adjust to moves you did not anticipate.

My view of fundamental analysis is that it provides a groundwork. You can for example learn about the breed of a bronco its past and recent history and. However, exactly how to ride this bias requires some technical analysis. My view of technical analysis is that it is a very precise plan of anticipation-action-reaction. For example if your experience is that after 2 strong lunges, the bronco tends to shake sideways, you should know how to react. In financianl markets, if you see a head and shoulder then a pullback, you know how to react. This is oversimplifying things, but you get my drift.
